A reminder of the feudal period comes in the form of the “Pupecon i baffi” (dolls with moustache). The unjust “jus primae noctis” aroused the jealousy of a prospective groom, who, in order to evade the unacceptable imposition of letting his future bride be possessed by the prince, disguised himself as his bride and appeared before the noble man, but since he had forgotten to shave off his moustache, he was immediately discovered. Aspunishment, he was ordered to provide the best of his wines in anthropomorphic ceramic flasks in memory of the betrayal, later called “Pupe”. Nowadays, the Pupe are made with or without moustaches and, also, in the “Pupa on horseback” version, to commemorate the groom’s escape from the castle. These peculiar pottery objects are often used as lamp bases.
