Metallic luster is a decorative technique in which a mixture containing noble metals, such as gold, platinum, and copper, is applied with a brush onto an already fired glazed surface. The object is then fired a third time in a reducing atmosphere, allowing the metals to bond with the glaze and producing the characteristic iridescent metallic reflections.
